No photos

I stopped blogging because it's so difficult to post a photo on Blogger. I practically jump through hoops just to get a photo up here. If I can figure out how to post a photo fairly easy, I'll have another free knitting pattern for all to enjoy.

a lot of new things have happened

Learned how to rush a seat, went to a wedding, took several road trips, went on a cruise during hurricane season, went to Key
West during Fantasy Fest....no I did not participate...I do not have the body I used to have, but I do have the common sense to know this :), had to give up the pets, work more, got unmarried and miss my dog, weathered several health issues, picked up knitting again...socks mostly, miss my spinning, got a new old well used road bike (as in bicycle), read some good books and watched a lot of movies, and fell in love with Dexter...I'll stop here, maybe more later :)

Summer Reunion Fun

This past August our high school class of ... ahem....1970 held a 40th, yes I said 4o years, class reunion. We had 3 days of fun that started off on a Friday evening with cocktails on the beach, the next day a round of golf in the morning and the dinner dance social that evening, followed the next day by a family BBQ for us diehards that couldn't get enough of each other. From all accounts, the entire weekend was a success...everyone had an enjoyable time.
I have not knitted very much this summer but have just recently picked up the needles and am working on a pair of mittens. Never made it to Rheinbeck this year...or MDSW....for that matter. Maybe next year.

The House

The house has been finished for over a year now and this is the first opportunity I've had to upload a photo of it. I'm happy with the experiance of the construction and quality. It's far superior to my home in the USA. The builder started construction with NO MONEY down..NO CONTRACTS...just a handshake. Yup...no lawyers either. However,I would not reccomend this practice in the US. I guess maybe I was lucky.

Pink Socks & Lulu

New socks designed by me for my best friend. The socks are just the regular 4 needle socks but the design was knit on the fly so to speak and I just copied it for the second one. These were finished months ago and this was the only photo on my computer. These days I knit less due to my work and sleep patterns. I am working on a basic cardigan sweater....its forest green and I hope it doesn't take me 10 years to make like the last one did. In other news, I have a new pet python...Lulu. I got her last April...she was a baby. Pictures to follow....

Neglect

I have done nothing but neglect my blog for quite some time. The truth is, I've been busy with all that happens around me and I got myself caught up in all of it. Some interesting and a lot of it not-so-interesting. There has been very little knitting and even less spinning. Lots of traveling, Canada, Germany, and San Francisco. Nope no pictures. I'm headed back up north to Nova Scotia this week to check on the house and do nothing but rest up for the next round. When I return maybe I'll have something more interestng to write about and a photo or two. In the meantime, if you are into antiques, please check out Bay Cities Antiques in the sidebar.

A reunion

L to R moi, Sue, Paula, & Deb. We all went to school together, grew up together. and graduated in the same class. This past April we kinda connected through one of those on line classmate things and decided to get together after 38 years. We had such a nice time catching up we decided to do it again...yesterday. This picture was yesterday. The menu; potato, macaroni, and Mediterranean Salad, fruit salad, pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, and wine. The food was delicious. The company extraordinarily relaxing and fun, despite the hot weather. We made plans to do this again next month, and we made other plans as well. ...Nope, not any of them knit...who says you got to knit to have a good time?

These are socks that I'm working on now. This is all I have for pictures, and no story to share about the socks other than that they are a gift for someone who will never have cold feet again. I'm also working on another Rogue, and a Starry Night Sweater. The Starry Night sweater is going along well, but I'm having issues with carring the contrasting color...it's all about co-ordination, or, in my case, lack of co-ordination. My left hand does what it wants and not what I need it to do, so the whole process of carring the contrasting color is, for me, a very long, slow, drawn out, making me sleepy, pain in the butt.

Adult Size

Size 5 US double pointed needles

1 skein of Worsted Weight or DK – Main Color = M/C
1 skein of Worsted Weight or DK – Contrasting Color = C/C

Cuff- With M/C wool, cast on 42 stitches. Divide on 3 needles (14 stitches on each needle). Join, being careful not to twist stitches, K2, P1 around, for 19 rounds or desired length. On the last round, increase 2 stitches on each needle (48 stitches total, 16 on each needle).

Pattern;

Rounds 1 & 2 – with M/C, Purl

Round 3 – Join C/C, K4, slip 2 purl ways, repeat to end of round. Repeat this round 4 more times.

Next Round; Using Main Color, Purl 2 rounds

Next Round; Using Contrasting Color, K1, *slip 2 purl ways, K4, repeat from * to the last 3 stitches, K3. Repeat this round 4 more times.

This makes one pattern ( 2 "Bubbles" ). Repeat this pattern once more making 4 "Bubbles"

Beginning with a purl row and M/C, put 8 stitches on a stitch holder. (I usually will purl the first stitch since it is the contrasting color, and put the next 8 stitches…the 2 slipped M/C, the 4 Knitted C/C, and the 2 slipped M/C… on a holder). Then cast on 8 more stitches and purl 2 rounds. Continue the pattern until 6 more "Bubbles" are made, end with 2 purl rounds.

Tip; With M/C,
1st round; K4, K2 together, repeat around
2nd round; K around
3rd round; K3, K2 together, repeat around
4th round; K around
5th round; K2 , K2 together, repeat around
6th round; K around
7th round; K1, K2 together, repeat around
8th round; K around
9th round; K2 together to end and fasten off by leaving a 12" tail. Thread through a needle and draw through all the stitches, weave in on the inside of the mitt.

Thumb; With M/C, pick up 8 stitches and slip the stitches off the stitch holder (16 stitches divided on 3 needles…I usually will put them 6-6-4). Knit 20 rounds or until the desired length. K2 together all around and fasten off.

Materials; 1 set of double pointed needles size 1 (US), any left over scrap sock yarn, large eye needle, and a Lucet (optional) for the cord.

Cast on 36 stitches. (hold two needles together and cast on 36 stitches – this will keep the top loose – remove one needle) Divide these stitches on three needles. 12 – 12 – 12 Join (be careful not to twist) and knit 2, purl 2 around for 3 rows.

Row 4; Knit 3, YO, YO, around. (YO, YO = wrap the yarn around 2 times, this makes a little bigger hole, and you'll need it for the cord)

Row 5; Knit around (you'll knit the YO's as one stitch, dropping the remaining loop) You should have 16 stitches on each needle (48 stitches total)

Row 6 & all other rows; Knit around until the bag measures about 2 ¼ inches.

Decrease;
Row 1; Knit 6, Knit 2 together around.
Row 2; Knit around (14 stitches on each needle)
Row 3; Knit 5, Knit 2 together around.
Row 4; Knit around (12 Stitches on each needle)
Row 5; Knit 4, Knit 2 together around.
Row 6; Knit around (10 Stitches on each needle)
Row 7; Knit 3, knit 2 together around. (8 Stitches on each needle)
Row 8; Knit 2, Knit 2 together around. (6 Stitches on each needle)
Row 9; Knit 1, Knit 2 together around. (4 Stitches on each needle)
Row 10; Knit 2 together around. (2 stitches on each needle)

Cut yarn leaving a 8" tail and thread a large eye needle. Using the threaded needle, pull the yarn through the remaining stitches and slip them off the knitting needles. Fasten on the inside.

Cord; Using the Lucet, make a cord approximately 36" long. Fasten it off and thread it through the eyelets on the pouch leaving about 3"of each end free (to be used for tying). In the center of the back of the pouch, pull up the cord, and tie a knot closest to the inside of the pouch (this knot will be hidden when the pouch is closed).

Fill with Lavender, scented herbs, little stones, secrets, and well wishes!
